Twitter (X) Ads Cost: CPM, CPC and Paying Only for Engagement

Twitter (X) Ads Cost: CPM, CPC and Paying Only for Engagement

A short post card with a reply arrow and a coin

Short answer

Twitter (X) ads cost about $5 to $15 per thousand impressions and roughly $0.74 to $0.85 per click on average in 2026, according to agency data, with B2B and SaaS clicks estimated at $0.80 to $2.50. X has no minimum spend, and with the Engagements objective you pay only when someone interacts with your post.

Key takeaways

  • X says there is no minimum spend for X Ads. You set a campaign budget and a bid for the action you want.
  • With the Engagements objective, X charges only when someone engages with the post: a click, repost, reply, like or poll vote.
  • 2026 agency data puts X CPMs at roughly $5 to $15 and average clicks at about $0.74 to $0.85, with B2B and SaaS clicks estimated at $0.80 to $2.50.
  • Agency datasets disagree widely. One median from more than 7,000 agencies puts a click at $0.18, far below other estimates.
  • X works best for products whose buyers already talk about their work on X, such as developers, founders, marketers and crypto users.

X still has a strong founder and builder audience. Product launches, build-in-public threads and tool announcements spread there faster than almost anywhere else. Paid ads on X can push a launch to people outside your followers, and the entry cost is low.

How X prices its ads

X explains its pricing in its business help center. The two points that matter most for a small advertiser:

There is no minimum spend required for X Ads.

The second is how you are charged. X runs an auction “where all advertisers bid on available ad space for the audience they want to reach,” and the price is not fixed. It depends on how people engage with your ad, the size of your audience, competition for it, and your bid. With the Engagements objective, X says “you will only pay when someone engages with your post,” which includes clicks, reposts, replies, likes and poll votes.

Other objectives use other billing units. Video views, for example, can be paid by impression or by view.

What a click and an impression cost

X does not publish averages. Agencies that run X campaigns report ranges, and a September 2026 roundup by the agency RZLT collected several of them:

MetricReported 2026 figures
Average CPC$0.74 (WebFX) and $0.85 (broader benchmark sets)
Median CPC, 7,000+ agencies$0.18 (AgencyAnalytics data)
CPC, B2B and SaaS$0.80 to $2.50
CPC, competitive tech and finance$1.50 to $4.00
CPM, broad audiences$5 to $9
CPM, B2B targeting$7 to $12
CPM, agency-managed accounts$8 to $15
Median cost per engagement$0.13

Average CPC across industries: $0.74; median across 7,000+ agencies: $0.18; B2B and SaaS: $0.80 to $2.50.

The $0.18 median looks out of line with the rest, and it probably reflects what that dataset counts as a click, which can include engagements that never leave X. When you compare X with other channels, measure link clicks that land on your site, not all engagements.

Budgets that agencies recommend

Because there is no minimum, you can run an X campaign on almost any budget. Agencies still suggest practical floors: about $20 to $50 a day for awareness and $50 to $100 a day for campaigns optimized for conversions, with around $500 spent before deciding whether to scale or stop.

Those figures are for learning, not for the platform. A $10 daily campaign will run; it will just take longer to tell you anything.

Who X works for

X is a good fit when your buyers already use it to talk about their work: developers, indie hackers, designers, marketers, investors and crypto communities. It is a weaker fit for products aimed at audiences that do not spend time on X.

Targeting on X includes keywords, interests, follower lookalikes and conversation topics. Follower lookalikes, which target people similar to the followers of named accounts, are often the most useful option for a niche product: list the accounts your buyers follow and let X find people like them.

A small launch test

  1. Promote a post that already performs. Paying to extend a launch post that is getting organic replies is cheaper than a cold ad.
  2. Target followers of five to ten relevant accounts. Choose accounts your buyers actually follow, not the biggest names in your field.
  3. Pick the objective that matches your goal. Engagements for reach during a launch, website traffic or conversions when you need visitors.
  4. Measure landed visits. Use tagged links and count visitors on your site, so engagements do not inflate the result.
